Akkha Masoor Dal.

Ingredients:

·       1 cup Akkha Masoor (Indian Brown Lentils)

·       1 chopped Tomatoes

·       Small piece of Ginger

·       5 to 6 Garlic cloves

·       1 chopped Onion

·       1 split green Chilies

·       1 teaspoon Ginger Garlic paste

·       Curry leaves

·       1 teaspoon Mustered seeds

·       1 teaspoon Cumin seeds

·       ½ teaspoon Asafoetida

·       1 tablespoons red Chili powder

·       ½ teaspoon Turmeric

·       1 teaspoon Cumin Coriander powder

·       1 teaspoon Garam Masala powder

·       1 teaspoon Kasoori Methi

·       Salt

·       Chopped Coriander

·       Oil

·       Water

·       For Tadka:

ü 3 to 4 chopped Garlic cloves

ü 1 teaspoon Cumin

ü ½ split Onion

ü 1 spilt green Chilie

ü 1 tablespoon clarified Butter.

Method:

Wash Dal and soak it in a water for ½ hour.

 

Now take a mixture jar, add chopped tomatoes, ginger and garlic. Make a fine paste.

 

After half an hour, heat a small cooker on a medium flame. Pour 2 tablespoons of oil, add mustered seeds, cumin seeds and asafoetida. Once seeds starts splutter, add curry leaves, chopped onions and split green chilies. Cook the onions till change the colour. Now add ginger garlic paste. Saute well. Now add tomato paste. Fry till raw smell goes.

 

Now add red chili powder, turmeric, cumin coriander powder, Garam Masala powder and some chopped coriander. Mix well.

Now pour soaked Dal into the tadka.  Add salt. Mix well. Now switch off the lid. And allow to cook till 4 whistle. After 4 whistle, slow the gas flame. And allow to cook for another 5 to 7 minutes.

 

After that switch off the flame. After cooling of cooker, open the lid and mix it. Again cook for another 5 minutes on a slow flame. Add some chopped coriander. 

 

On the other side heat small tadka pan on a slow flame. Pour 1 tablespoon clarified butter, then add cumin seeds. Once cumin seeds starts sputter, add split green chilies, chopped garlic. Once garlic change the colour add chopped onions. Fry the onions till golden brown. Switch off the flame. Pour this tadka on the dal and mix it nicely.

 

Switch off the flame. Now dal is ready to serve.

 

Serve hot dal with steam rice.
