Surmai Curry Recipe Kokani Style.

Ingredients:

  • Seer fish 6 pieces ( Surmai Fish)
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • Curry leaves
  • 1 split green Chilies
  • 2 crushed Garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric
  • Salt
  • oil
  • For Masala Paste:
  • 1 cup grated Coconut
  • 1 Small chopped onion
  • 1 Big size tomato
  • 6 to 7 Garlic cloves
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 4 green Chilies
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander seeds
  • ½ cup Coriander leaves
  • For soaking:
  • 5 to 6 Dry red Chilies ( Sankeshwari Mirchi)
  • 2 tablespoon Tamarind
  • ½ teaspoon Fenugreek Seeds

Method:

Wash fish pieces cleanly and apply some turmeric and salt. Keep aside.

Take one bowl with half glass of water, add split dry red chili, tamarind (Remove Seeds from tamarind) and fenugreek seeds. Soak this for 10 minutes till soften the red chilies.

Take mixture jar, add grated coconut, onion, tomato, garlic, ginger, cumin coriander seeds, green chilies coriander and also add soak red chilies, tamarind, fenugreek seeds. Add some water and grate into a fine paste. Now the curry paste is ready.

Heat a kadai on a medium flame, add 1 tablespoon of oil. Once oil is heated, add mustard seeds. When mustard seeds flutter, add curry leaves, split green chilies and crushed garlic. Saute well till garlic change the color. Now add curry paste, fry this paste for 5 minutes till raw smell goes. Add some turmeric. Mix it.

Now add 2 glass of water. Add some salt to taste. Mix it well and allow to boil. Once it’s started boiling, add pieces of fish, and allow to boil at least for 10 minutes to cook the fish properly.

Garnish with chopped coriander.

Serve hot with bhakari or steam rice.
