  • 1 Cup Moong Dal
  • 1 Big Size Chopped Onion
  • 1 Chopped Tomato
  • 4 to 5 Chopped Garlic
  • 1 Chopped Green Chili
  • 1 Teaspoon Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 5 to 6 Curry Leaves
  • ½ Teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • ½ Teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • ½ Teaspoon Asafoetida
  • 1 Tablespoon Red Chili Powder
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garam Masala Powder
  • Chopped Coriander
  • Salt to Taste
  • ½ Cup Water
  • 1 Tablespoon Oil


Wash the dal 2 to 3 times and soaked it into the water for ½ hour.

After ½ hour, heat a kadai on a medium flame, pour oil. Once oil heated add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Once its splutter add asafetida, chopped garlic and green chilies. Once garlic change the color, add chopped onion. Cook the onion till change the color. Now add ginger garlic paste. Saute well.

Now add chopped tomatoes. Cook the tomatoes till mushy. Then add red chili and garam masala powder and turmeric into it. Mix well. Now add soaked dal into it. Add salt to taste. Mix well.

Now keep lid on the kadai. Allow to cook for 5 minutes. If dal sticks into the bottom of the kadai then add some water for cook. Don’t use much water.

Once dal cook perfectly, add chopped coriander and mix well. Switch off the flame.

Serve with chapati or bhakari.
