Thalipeeth Authentic Maharashtrian Recipe.

Ingredients:

·      2 bowls bhajni ( Thalipeeth flour)

·      1 big chopped onion

·       ½ cup Shredded cucumber ( optional)

·      2 tablespoons ginger, garlic, green chilies paste

·      Chopped Coriander

·      1 tablespoons cumin (Jeera)

·      Pinch of carom seeds

·      Half teaspoon asafoetida  

·      1 and ½ tablespoons sesame seeds (Til)

·      Oil

·      1 tablespoon Red chili powder

·      1 teaspoon Garam masala powder

·      Turmeric

·      Salt.

Method:

Heat a vessel on a medium flame. Add two tablespoons of oil in it. Once oil heated add cumin. When cumin spluttered add asafoetida, ginger, garlic and chili paste into the oil. Mix it till, raw smell goes. Now add 2 glass of water in it. Keep gas on medium flame. Do not boil water. Once waters get warm, slow the gas flame.

Now add chopped onions, coriander and shredded cucumber. Now time to add red chili powder, garam masala powder, turmeric and salt as per taste. Mix well. Turn off the flame. Now add Thalipeeth Bhajani into this hot masala water which is in the pot, Mix it properly.

Cover the vessel with the lid for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes transfer the Thalipeeth dough in a big plate.  Apply water to the hand and press the dough slowly till it become soften. Mix well.

Now dough is ready for making Thalipeeth. Place a non-stick pan on medium flame and spread some oil.  Then wet a cotton cloth with water. Spread the cloth on the rolling board. Now take a portion of dough. Roll on palms and flatten on the cloth. Make a hole on the centre of the Thalipeeth. Now remove the Thalipeeth from the cloth and put on a pan. With spoon pour some oil on the centre of Thalipeeth. Now fry from both the sides till become golden brown. This is how you can make Thalipeeths from rest of dough.

Serve hot Thalipeeth with butter and tomato sauce. You can also serve with curd and pickle.
