For Rice Dough:

  • 3 Glass Water
  • 1/3 Teaspoon Salt
  • 2 Tablespoon Clarified Butter (Ghee)

For Coconut Stuffing:

  • 1 whole grated Coconut
  • 1 Bowl Jaggery
  • 1 Teaspoon Green Cardamom and nutmeg powder
  • 2 Tablespoon Clarified Butter ( Ghee)
  • ½ Cup Almond and Cashew Powder
  • Some saffron Strands

4 to 5 Turmeric Leaf and some ghee for making modak.

Method:

Firstly make coconut stuffing for modak. Heat a kadai, on a medium flame. Pour ghee in a kadai. Now add mixture of grated coconut and jaggery. Mix well. Keep stirring till jaggery dissolved with coconut. You can see the nice golden brown color came. At this stage you may add almond and cashew powder. Mix well. Then add Green Cardamom, nutmeg powder and saffron Strands. Mix well and switch off the gas.

The coconut stuffing is ready for filling.

Now we start making rice dough. Heat a kadai. Add three glass of water. Into the water add salt and ghee. Stir it. Once water heated, remove 1 glass of water from the kadai and keep that water aside.

Now keep the gas on a slow flame. Then add rice flour into the water, stir it continuously. Stir till all the rice flour is mixed with the water. Switch off the gas. And keep the lid on a kadai.

With the help of steam, rice flour can cook and become more moist.

Keep the lid for at least 10 minutes.  After 10 minutes, take out all the mixture of rice from the kadai and transfer them in the parat. Knead the dough. Use ghee at the time of kneading.

Use hot water for kneading if required which we had separated from the kadai.

Make a soft dough. Keep this dough in a container.

Now make a small ball of this dough. Apply ghee to the hand. With the help of hand flattened the ball as thin as possible. . Fill them with the coconut stuffing. Now hold that rice flour katori in your hand like a diya and press their edges which I shown in the picture. Bring the all edged closer and join them. Remove the extra portion on the top.

Shape the top with the help of finger.

Now our beautiful modak is ready with a perfect shape. Like this make all the modak.

Now take a sieve, keep turmeric leaf into the sieve. Apply some ghee on that leafs also, and keep those modak on it. Now heat a heavy bottom pot with the water. And keep this sieve on the top of the pot. Keep lid in the sieve. And allow to steam this modak for at least 10 to 12 minutes on a medium flame.

Here I am using turmeric leaves at the time of steaming the modak. Turmeric leaves are very aromatic. It gives a fresh fragrance and flavor to the modak. So if you don’t have those leaves then it’s totally optional. Then you can directly keep the modak in a sieve for steaming.

After 10 to 12 minutes switch off the gas. After 2 minutes remove the lid from the sieve.

You can see the delicious modak is ready to serve to our ganpati.

Pour a cow ghee on the modak. And enjoy with our Beloved Ganpati and family.

Thank you.

Have a wonderful day.
