·      1 cup basmati rice/long grain Rice

·      ½ cup Split Pigeon Peas Dal ( Toor Dal)

·      ¼ th cup split petit yellow lentil ( Moong Dal)

·      ¼ th cup Red Lentils ( Masoor Dal)

·      ¼ th cup Split Bengal Gram Lentil ( Chana Dal)

·      1 big chopped Onions

·      2 big chopped Tomatoes

·      2 to 3 chopped Chilies

·      1 tablespoons Ginger Garlic paste

·      1 tablespoons chopped Ginger Garlic

·      1 tablespoons long chopped Ginger

·      Turmeric

·      Red Chili powder

·      1 tablespoons Cumin Coriander powder

·      1 tablespoons Garam Masala powder

·      1 tablespoons Kasuri Methi

·      Oil

·      Clarified Butter

·      2 tablespoons Cumin

·      4 whole red Chilli’s

·      Curry leaves

·      Salt


Mix all Dals and wash at least for 3 to 4 times. Soak the Dal for ½ hour. After ½ hour, heat a pressure cooker on a medium flame. Add 1 tablespoons of clarified butter, add 1 teaspoon of cumin, chopped ginger. Then, add soaked Dal in that. Add almost 2 glass of water, turmeric and salt. Mix well. Close the lid. Cook the Dal in pressure cooker in 3 to 4 whistle.

Then, wash the rice. Soak for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, Cook the rice with 1 teaspoon of salt either in pressure cooker or any other pot. Keep aside.

Now heat a big vessel, add 1 tablespoons of oil and 1 tablespoons of clarified butter. Then add cumin. Once cumin started fluttering, add asafoetida, chopped ginger & garlic, red chillies. Mix well. Now add chopped onions. Fry till colour change. Add 1 tablespoons ginger garlic paste and chopped green chilies. Mix well. Now add chopped tomatoes. Fry till tomatoes cook.

Now time to add all the spices. Slow the flame, add red chili powder, turmeric, cumin coriander powder, garam masala powder, kasuri methi and salt. Mix well. Now, add boil Dal into this mixture. Mix it again. Check the taste of salt. Add some salt if required. Because we had added the salt at the time of cooking the Dal. Add some water also. Allow to make boil.

After boiling of Dal, add chopped coriander. Mix well. Now add Steam rice into the Dal. Mix properly.

Do not make dry Dal khichdi. For that add some water into the Dal khichdi. Mix well. Keep the lid for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes mix the Dal khichdi.

Serve hot with Papad and Pickle.
