Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Pigeon Pea Dal (Toor Dal)
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 2 Tablespoon oil
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • ½ Teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 1/3 Teaspoon Methi Seeds
  • 2 Slit Green Chilies
  • 2 Dry Red Chilies
  • 8 to 10 curry leaves
  • 2 Chopped tomatoes
  • 2 Glass water
  • 2 Teaspoon jaggery
  • 2 Tablespoon Tamarind Water
  • Chopped coriander

Method:

Wash the dal 3 to 4 times. Then, soaked in water for at least 30 minutes. After 30 minutes add turmeric and salt into dal and pressure cook the dal till 4 whistles.

Once dal cook, start making tadka for dal. Heat a kadai on a medium flame. Add oil. Once oil heated add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and methi seeds. Once seeds splutter add curry leaves, green chilies and red chilies. Now add chopped tomatoes. Sauté well. Cook the tomatoes till mushy. Once it cooks add boiled dal into this tadka. Add water. Keep thick in consistency. Add salt. As we already added the salt into the dal at the time of cooking, so use the salt as per taste and requirement.

Now stir it once, add jaggery and tamarind pulp. Allow to boil. Once boil come add chopped coriander. Keep the gas on a low flame. Allow to cook for another 5 to 7 minutes.

Switch off the gas.

So, delicious Gujrati Khatti Mitthi Dal is ready to serve.
