Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Kolam Rice
  • ½ Cup Toor dal
  • 2 to 3 Tablespoon oil
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • 1 Teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 5 to 6 Curry leaves
  • 1/3 Teaspoon asafoetida
  • 5 to 6 cloves
  • 1 inch cinnamon sticks
  • 1/3 cup peanuts
  • 1 big size chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
  • 1 potato ( square shape)
  • 1 tablespoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric
  • Chopped Coriander
  • Salt
  • 3 to 4 glass Boil water
  • Ghee for serving.

Method:

Wash dal and rice in running water. Soaked it for 15 minutes.

Heat a cooker on a medium flame. Pour oil. Once oil heated add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, asafoetida, cloves, cinnamon sticks, bay leaves and peanuts. Once peanuts change the color, add chopped onion.  Cook the onion till golden brown. Add potatoes and ginger garlic paste. Sauté well.

Now add spices. Add red chili powder, turmeric, garam masal powder and salt. Mix well and add chopped coriander.

Once all the spices cook well, add soaked rice dal and salt. Mix well and pour 4 glasses of boil water. Stir it. Lid on the cooker and allow to cook the khichdi till 4 to 5 whistles.

Once cooker cool it down. Serve the khichdi with papad and aam achar.
