Ingredients:

  • 1 Bowl fresh prawns
  • 3 Cup basmati rice
  • 1 Bowl coconut milk
  • 2 to 3 Big size chopped onion
  • 2 Chopped tomatoes
  • Chopped coriander
  • Green paste
  • 5 green chili
  • Coriander
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 10 to 12 garlic cloves
  • Dry spices:
  • 5 Cloves
  • 6 to 7 Pepper corn
  • 1 inch Cinnamon
  • 1 Star Anise
  • 2 Bay Leaves
  • 1 Tablespoon cumin
  • 1 Black cardamom
  • 1 Tablespoon red chili powder
  • 1 Turmeric
  • 1 Tablespoon garam masala powder
  • Salt
  • 4 to 5 Glass boil water
  • Oil

Method:

Wash prawns and marinate with red chilli powder, turmeric, salt and green paste. Keep it aside.

Also wash the basmati rice 4 to 5 times and soaked in water for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes, heat a heavy bottom pot. Add oil. Once oil heated, add dry spices. Like, cumin, bay leaves, black cardamom, cinnamon, cloves and black pepper.

Then, add Chopped onions.  Sauté well till change the colour.  Add green paste.  Keep stirring it till raw smell goes.

Now add Chopped tomatoes.  Cook the tomatoes till mushy.  Once onion and tomatoes cook well, add red chilli powder, turmeric, garam masala powder, salt  and chopped coriander.  Mix well.  Keep the gas on a slow flame. Now add marinated prawns into this masala. 

Mix well. Keep the lid on it and allow to cook for 5 minutes.

After 5 minutes lid off the pot. You can see prawns released all the water.  Now add rice and some salt on the rice. Mix well.

Add coconut milk. And stir it. Then add at least 4 glass of hot water on it. Keep the gas on a high flame.

Mix well. Allow to boil.  Once the boil come. Keep the gas on a medium flame. Keep the lid on a pot for cooking the prawns and rice.

After 7 minute remove lid from the pot. You see all water is absorbed by rice.

Add water if needed.  Mix well. Add some Chopped coriander on the top of the rice.

Heat a tava on a low flame and keep the pot on the Tawa.  And allow to cook for another 10 minutes on a slow flame.

After 10 minutes switch off the gas.

Serve this delicious “Kolambi Bhaath” with fish and some onions.
