  • 1 Cup Toor dal (Pigeon Pea Dal)
  • ½ Teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 Teaspoon red chili powder
  • 2 Slit green chili
  • 1/3 Teaspoon asafoetida
  • 6 to 7 Garlic cloves
  • 6 to 7 Curry leaves
  • Chopped Coriander leaves
  • Small piece of jaggery
  • 3 to 4 Tablespoon tamarind pulp
  • ½ Cup grated coconut
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 Tablespoon oil
  • 1 Teaspoon mustered seeds


Wash the toor dal 3 to 4 times, then add 2 glass of water into it. Add red chili powder, turmeric and asafoetida into the dal. Now cook this dal in pressure cooker.

Now transfer this dal into the pot. Now, add slit green chili, tamarind pulp, grated coconut, curry leaves, jaggery, Chopped coriander and salt into this boiled dal.

Now keep this pot on a gas with medium flame. Allow to boil for at least 10 minutes.  Then keep the gas on a slow flame.

Now on an other side, heat tadka pan on a medium flame.  Pour 2 tablespoon of oil. Once oil heated add mustered seed. Once seeds splutter add, curry leaves, chopped garlic. Once garlic changes the color.  Switch off the flame and pour this tadka on the boil dal. Mix well.

Now switch off the gas and serve this dal with steam rice.
