  • 2 cup Basmati Rice
  • 2 cup Green Peas
  • 2 chopped Onions
  • 2 chopped Tomatoes
  • Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1 tablespoons Red Chili Powder
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1 tablespoons Garam Masala powder
  • Chopped Coriander
  • Oil
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons clarified Butter
  • Salt
  • Dry spices for tempering:
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 2 Green Cardamom
  • 1 Black Cardamom
  • 2 Bay Leaves
  • 5 to 6 Black Paper corn
  • 4 to 5 Cloves
  • 1 piece Cinnamon


Firstly wash the rice 4 to 5 times and soaked in the water for 15 minutes.

Now heat a kadai on a medium flame, pour 3 tablespoons of oil in it. Add Mustered seeds and cumin seeds. Once they sputter, add all the dry spices. Now add chopped onions.

Once onions changed the colour add ginger garlic paste. Saute well. Now add chopped tomatoes. Mix it with onions. Allow to cook for another 2 minutes. Now add red chili powder, turmaric, Garam Masala powder and some salt. Mix it well.

Keep the gas on a slow flame. Now add green peas into this. Mix it again.

Remove all the water from the rice. And add soaked rice into the green peas.

Mix the Rice with all the spices. Now add 4 glass of water. Add some salt. Mix well. Allow to boil for at least 4 to 5 minutes. Now again mix with all the rice. Keep the gas on a slow flame. And keep a lid on a kadai. Now allow to cook for another 4 to 5 minutes.

Add chopped coriander and drizzled the ghee on the top of the rice. Again keep lid for another 4 minutes.

Mattar rice is ready to serve.

Serve with raita.
