SPICY MASOOR DAL FRY RECIPE.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Red Lentils ( Masoor Dal)
  • 1 chopped Onions
  • 1 big chopped Tomatoes
  • 2 green Chilies
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger Garlic paste
  • Curry leaves
  • 1 tablespoon Mustard seeds
  • 1 tablespoon Cumin seeds
  • ½ teaspoon Asafoetida
  • 1 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • 2 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon Cumin and Coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garam masala powder
  • 1 or 2 Kokum
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 Tablespoon Oil
  • Chopped Coriander for garnishing
  • For Tadka:
  • 7 to 8 chopped Garlic Cloves
  • 4 to 5 Curry Leaves
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 2 Split Red Chilies
  • 1 tablespoon Oil

Method:

Wash the Dal at 3 to 4 times. Add water into the dal and soak it for 15 to 20 minutes.

Now, heat a Kadai on medium flame, pour 1 tablespoon of oil in it. Once oil is heated, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves and chopped green chilies.

Keep the gas on low flame. (Do not over burn Tadka).

Sauté well.

Now add chopped onions. Fry the onions till turn golden, then add ginger garlic paste and chopped tomatoes in it. Fry all the masala till tomatoes gets mushy.

Now time to add spices. Add red chili powder, turmeric, cumin coriander powder and garam masala powder. Mix it well. Now add soaked dal into the masala. Mix well.

Add water and also add salt for taste. Here you at least add 4 glass of water to cook the dal.

Allow to boil till the spices mix in it properly. You can also check the taste and adjust the salt/water as you wanted. Keep the lid on a kadai. This dal take 15 to 20 minutes to cook. So keep the gas on a slow flame. And allow to cook nicely on a slow flame. After 15 minutes you can check, the dal cook very nice.

Now take a whisk and whisk the dal till thick in consistency. Now add kokam and ½ teaspoon garam masala into the dal. Mix well. Keep the gas on a slow flame.

Now on other site, we prepare for tadka. Heat a tadka pan on a slow flame. Add 1 tablespoon of oil. Once oil heated add, cumin seeds and curry leaves. Once cumin seeds splutter add, split red chilies and chopped garlic. Saute well. Once garlic change the colour. Switch off the flame.

Now add this tadka into the dal. Stir well.

Allow to cook for 1 minute. And garnish with chopped coriander.

You can have this Masoor Daal Fry with Jeera or plain rice.
