Spongy and soft idly with Idly Rava.

  • 2 Cup Idly Rava or Rice Rava.
  • 2/3 Cup Urad dal
  • ½ Cup Flattened Rice (Poha)
  • Water
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • Oil for Greasing


Take an idly rava and urad dal in a separate bowl. Wash them at least 4 to 5 times. Then soaked them in a water for at least 6 to 7 hours. Before 1 hour of grinding, soaked fattened rice in a water.

After a 6 hours of soaking dal and idly rava, remove all the water from the idly rava and transfer it into the mixing bowl. Whisk the rava with the help of whisk. Whisk it till look smooth.

Then take a mixture jar, add soaked dal and flattened rice into it. Add water and grind them till smooth paste. Use the water as per the requirement for grinding.

Then transfer this paste into the idly rava paste. Mix well with the whisk.

Once it mix well, keep this batter in warm place for fermentation. For fermentation it took at least 8 to 10 hours.

After 10 hours, batter became nicely fermented. Now add salt to taste.

And mix well.

Now heat idly steamer with water on a medium flame. Grease the idly mould with oil and pour the batter into the mould. And keep this muld into the steamer. Keep the lid on it. And allow to steam for 10 to 12 minutes. After 12 minutes switch off the flame, remove the mould from the steamer and and allow to cool down in room temperature for 2 to 3 minutes.

Then remove the idlies from the mould and serve with coconut chutney.
